  -  Blog   -  The Weekend: A Blend of Hiking Adventures and Artistic Exercises

I’m excited to share the story of our eventful weekend, filled with both challenges and heartwarming moments. We embarked on a hike near the Aparan reservoir, choosing a route that was manageable for our 4-year-old son.

At first glance, it might appear that our hike was a “failed” attempt. We didn’t reach our intended destination, Pogos-Petros Zovunu, due to construction blocking our path and an unfortunate flat tire on our son’s balance bike. But, as they say, life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.

Despite these setbacks, we managed to turn the situation around. While my husband and son headed back to the car, I spent time with my sketchbook, capturing the serene surroundings. Used a couple of tricks to get our son’s spirits lifted, and we decided to continue our journey.

Walked through the construction site, and we emerged to a breathtaking vista. Mountains in the distance, the walls of the Church of St. Paul and Peter, and the splendid shimmering reservoir painted a picturesque scene. The warm sun, coupled with the cool shade of the forest, was inviting to settle for rest.

We made a collective decision not to push further but to savor the moment. I unpacked my plein air art materials, my husband and son enjoyed a tea break, and we all connected with nature. The scent of spruce forest filled the air as we sang songs from our son’s repertoire.

This hike was a lesson in balance, accommodating everyone’s interests and nourishing family time. It was a beautiful place to pause and appreciate life’s simple pleasures.

On our way back, I couldn’t resist collecting an autumn bouquet of herbs, which led to quite the adventure involving cobwebs in the car and some amusing anecdotes at home. But that’s a story for another day!
