A diptych on stretched paper 50*100 cm— something I had never tried before. I made a couple of small sketches first, and then decided to go for the large sheet. The scale felt a little intimidating, but also exciting.
The subject is simple and very dear to me: a still life from our dacha — white flowers in a vase on the windowsill.
My son can hardly wait for the season to begin so we can go there again. And honestly, neither can I. One of the first things I always do when we arrive is make a bouquet — from garden flowers, field flowers, or sometimes even dry herbs gathered in the forest. Somehow the house immediately feels alive once there are flowers on the table.
In the painting, I also included a vase from our red polka-dot tea set. About ten years ago I tried to convince my mom to replace it with a new one. Back then it felt old-fashioned.
Now I love it.
The red with white dots feels so familiar and warm — like something that has quietly been part of our home and memories all along.
